Traffic island in Alwarpet junction to be named after film maker K. Balachander

A traffic island at the west end of Luz Church, near Kauvery Hospital, is to be named after well-known film director, late K. Balachander.

This step was taken following representation to the Chennai Corporation. The idea was approved at the Teynampet zone level meet of councillors and at the city council and is being forwarded to the state government.

The theatreperson and film maker resided on the then Warren Road, now Bhaktavatsalam Salai, not far from the island that will be named after him.

Photo below was shot when M K Stalin, then a deputy CM and now CM, greeted Balachander when he was chosen for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award.
