Tribute: R. Subramanian: chartered accountant, educationist, arts promoter

R. Subramanian, a very well-known and an eminent chartered accountant, who hailed from Mayavaram and was a Mylapore veteran,  passed away on April 5, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving behind his wife Malathi, son Gokul and daughters Priya and Prabha.

RS, as he is fondly known, was a rare combination of deep intellect, extreme alacrity, sharp uptake, unadulterated wisdom, brilliant articulation and an amazing passion for tireless work, his colleagues said.

He was not only a professional CA but an educationist (founder of Akshar Arbol International School),  connoisseur of fine arts (past president of Kapali Fine Arts, committee member of Kartik Fine Arts and treasurer of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan).

People known to him said he was born in the 13th generation in the direct lineage of Shri Appaya Deekshitar.

He completed his school at National High School, Mannargudi, where his father was a Sanskrit teacher

He then moved to Chennai to pursue B.Com at RKM Vivekananda College, Mylapore and later qualified as chartered accountant, cost accountant and company secretary.
He founded the eponymous CA firm M/s R Subramanian and Company in 1974, which today, employs over 100 professionals and has offices in Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
