Celebrating music maestro T. M. Thiagarajan’s centenary. May 27.

Carnatic music maestro T. M. Thiagarajan’s birth anniversary  is being celebrated by his sishyas and well-wishers at Narada Gana Sabha hall, Alwarpet on May 27 evening.

Among the events starting at 5 p.m. are the release of a special postal cover on TMT, as the guru was fondly called, a video show on TMT’s life, group concerts by his sishyas and finally, Sanjay Subrahmanyan’s concert at 6.30 p.m. This event is open to all.

TMT, one of the stars of the Thanjavur cultural world, started in the dance and theatre world, stunned vidwans like Semmangudi Srinivasaiyer with his musical talent when he was young and he went to be a great vocalist and hugely-respected guru.

He also served as vice Principal in the Tamil Nadu Govt. Music College, Chennai, and as a principal in Madurai Govt. Music College, at Teacher’s College of Music at the Music Academy, Chennai and at Annamalai University in Chidambaram.
