Sri Kapali Temple Vasantha utsavam: Singaravelar lures Valli in guise of saintly old man

Even as Lord Singaravelar made his way out from the Thiru Kalyana mandapam at Sri Kapali Temple at 8pm on Sunday evening on the ninth day of the Vasantha Utsavam, devotees were thrilled to find him decorated as an old man with a walking stick.

When Valli did not accede to his request to marry her, lord Muruga took the form of a saintly old man with a walking stick to impress her with his true love. It was then that she agreed to marry him.

This historical episode was played out on Sunday evening at the emple as part of the ongoing Vasantha utsavam.

Hereditary priest E. Venkatasubramanian Shivachariar told Mylapore Times that the idea to highlight these symbolic rituals is to kindle the curiosity of the devotees and educate them of various socio-religious events through these special Thiru Kolams.
