Marina Beach service road section closed for Chennai metro work

A section of Marina Beach service road in the Mylapore zone has been closed now. This has been done from yesterday night to facilitate work on Chennai Metro.

The Metro work, which began over a year ago around the Gandhi statue zone, is going on at full pace – a major underground station-junction of the Metro is being developed in this zone, to feed the Light House to Porur-Poonamallee rail line which runs through Luz and Alwarpet.

Barricades have been put up on the service road north of the Light House boundary and on the road opposite Vivekananda Illam in the north end.

Metro contract staff are also posted to turn back motorists.

  1. The Metro work in any Indian city will be a farce unless they stop sale of private and commercial cars. Let’s treat each city like Singapore and rely heavily on publuc transport. Unless this is done, metro in India will be unaffordable and will not clear traffic congestion.
