Chennai Metro; massive dust pollution in R. A. Puram caused in transporting soil

Work at Chennai Metro’s sprawling site off Brodies Road, R K Mutt Road and Dr D G Dinakaran Road is causing massive dust pollution.

Motorists who drive in this zone late at night say that the movement of excavated mud and soil from the underground chamber that is being laid for the rail line is causing this problem.

“Dust in huge quantity flies off from lorries that carry the soil from this site to elsewhere and much is also dropped on the road,” said a Adyar based motorist who gets home at night from the city central.

Also, the mud that settles on the roads and roadside keeps getting blown up and circulates in the air in this zone.

And when it rains, the dust cakes up and when it dries, circulates in the air.

On two nights in recent weeks, we saw at least 6 to 7 trucks parked opposite Jesus Calls campus, awaiting their turn to load and transport the soil.

We also saw the roads in this area covered with dust over some 200 mts.
