“25 of us assembled in the school that morning. The dress code was green and since our uniform was also green, it brought back wonderful memories,” said Geetha Raghavan, a retired special educator who, along with Dr R. Muthulakshmi, formed a WhatsApp group to bring these batchmates together.

The school had organised a Republic Day function, followed by the alumni meet.

Subhalakshmi Kesavan, retired associate professor, Ethiraj College for Women from the 1970 alumni batch was the special guest for the alumni meet.

She recalled several campus incidents that stood out for her and also shared her happiness at her children and grandchildren being students of the same school.

Dr. Thangam Meganathan, chairperson, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, of the 1973-74 batch, also spoke briefly at the event.

“It was nostalgic meeting our friends after 50 years, some of whom we had lost touch with completely. We are still talking to each other over the phone to share our experiences over the years. I am yet to get over the excitement. We also met Nirmala teacher who became the HM later,” adds Geetha.

The alumni of the 1973-1974 batch collected a corpus fund of Rs. 6.81 lakh and handed it over to the school management to be used for the ongoing breakfast scheme for girls.

The Reunion also celebrated the get together of the silver jubilee batch. ( photo below)

“The silver jubilee batch had also come and they too handed over a fund to the management. They said they were inspired by us and that made us very happy. We hope to be in touch and also do more for the school,” adds Geetha.

The session was filled with nostalgia, smiles, photo clicks and hearty conversations, says Geetha.

Every year, January 26 is marked on the school’s calendar for the  Old Girls’ Reunion.  The school’s staff in charge of its alumni work hard for weeks to collate data, plan the Reunion and communicate to the old girls.
