Tradition continues at this church feast in R. A. Puram. Nagaswaram-tavil music leads procession

The community of Our Lady of Guidance Church in R. A. Puram, popularly known as Saint Lazarus Church led by its Parish Priest Fr Y. F Bosco celebrated the 442nd  feast of saint Lazarus, the patron saint of the parish last week.

The highlights were on January 27 and 28.

On January 27, after prayers at the church the nine, grandly decorated with fresh flowers cars that carried the statues of the saints and Mary were taken out in procession around the church neighbourhood’street.
The eight saints are archangel Michael, Santiago, Sebastian, Francis Xavier, Roche, Anthony of Padua, Joseph, Lazarus and Nakshatra madha.
Residents had decorated the streets with colourful lights and beautiful rangolis.
By the time the procession returned to the church, it was midnight. Leo Band provided the music at the rear and nagaswaram – tavil artistes troupe led the procession. The ther stopped at many places to allow families to garland the statues.
The procession was repeated  on Sunday morning after the English Mass.
In the evening after the 5.15 Mass, the feast flag was lowered and  the beautifully decorated statue of Mary (Nakshatra madha) was taken out in procession.
In keping with decades-old tradition, a small bazaar had come up around the church zone – hawkers sold eatables, trinkets, toys and household articles.
