Sri Kapali Temple devotees sore with demolition of footwear storeroom on west side

People who visit Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple regularly are unhappy that a footwear storage facility on the west side of the temple has been done away with and so, they are forced to leave footwear on the street and some have found their slippers / sandals stolen.

They say the footwear stand was cleared off to accommodate golf-cart like buggies that are used to pick-up and drop seniors who want to visit the temple,  between the R. K. Mutt Road end and west gopuram end points.

But the west side of the temple gate zone often presents a messy picture, with many people dropping off footwear on the street without storing it at the ‘no charge’ footwear storage room.

This despite a signboard here that asks people not to leave their footwear near the temple gate.

  1. Decades back I remember people on Kerala beginning bags to carry their footwear. They used to put it inside a plastic cover and then inside their handbag.
On the other hand temple can have a footwear stand inside the premises.
