Merlyn Suares, aged 97, passed away in Chennai on March 10.
She resided in the TNHB apartments in Foreshore Estate from the early 1970s till 2019. Her husband was an additional collector of Customs then.
She is survived by her two children, Jennifer Arul and Cdr. Keith Suares. Her third child Dr Roger Suares died in Florida, USA in October 2023.
Merlyn Suares was the daughter-in-law of Alice Suares, a three-term MLA and inspectress of Anglo-Indian schools in the city.
Merlyn had a wide circle of friends in San Thome with whom she shared her many talents of crafting, knitting and cooking. She was an active member of the Golden Years Club, a gathering of elderly persons, set up by Dr. Beatrix D’ Souza, a Custian Beach Road resident and former MLA and MP.
