This was perhaps the best play this far in the Kodai Nataka Vizha, a fest of new Tamil plays that Kartik Fine Arts hosts every year when summer temperatures rise and people get to watch a dozen new plays on stage in a/c comfort. At Narada Gana sabha hall, Alwarpet.
‘thRee’, of Lavanya Venugopal and M.V. Bhaskar staged ‘Kalavu Neekiya Padalam’, written by V. Sreevathson and directed by M. V. Bhaskar. It was staged on April 29 evening.
The Vizha has been getting a full house from day one but this April 29 evening, the house got packed even before the first bell.

The play, a courtroom drama with parallel cases, was taut, changed scenes quickly and rode on at good pace to grab and retain the interest of the audience right through.
And perhaps for the rare time this festival, actor Lavanya whose character blossomed over time, got rousing rounds of applause, the like that no actor has received at plays this far.
The theatre fest is on till May 3.
