A team of city-based architects and conservation experts is hosting a meeting in Mylapore to share thoughts on how old houses can be cared for and maintained and have an interaction with owners of houses which are 50/70 years old.
The informal meet is on August 23, 5.30 p.m. onwards at the Ranade Library ( Sastri Hall campus) in Luz.
It will be on for about 75 minutes and is open to all those who have an interest in the subject.
Architects Kanmani, Shalini and Zubair Ahmed will speak and also interact with people.
Zubair said that Mylapore is endowed with many buildings built in traditional styles using building materials that were in vogue before the mass switch to cement and concrete and that people who own such houses may well need professional inputs when they wish to maintain / restore these houses.
The trio who will lead the August 23 meet are trained in architectural conservation and have direct professional experience in architecture. They wish to help people who are proud of their old buildings and would like to preserve what they possess.
The trio said they offer voluntary service for preliminary assessment of the buildings, condition mapping & provide conceptual strategies for repair / rehabilitation. The service is strictly voluntary and also does not demand any future engagement, said Zubair.
Pre-registration for this meet is not necessary.
