MTC’s Mandaveli bus depot was campus has been barricaded.
This follows complaints that while some people used it as a parking lot, some, who frequent the state-run liquor sales shop of TASMAC, also hung around to drink.
Chennai Metro has planned a double-block, shopping and office plaza in the plot that was the terminus and where the bus depot is today off South Canal Bank Road, linked by a walkway above R. K. Mutt Road,
The Metro’s Mandaveli station ( underground) will be located here.
A small passage across the former bus terminus remains which allows people to walk to drive two-wheelers from the Venkatakrishnan Road side to the R. K. Mutt Road end.
Once CMRK starts fullscale work here, the area will be a no-go zone.
