Historian-academic-writer A. R. Venkatachalapathy will present a updated edition of his book titled
‘In Those Days There Was No Coffee: Writings in Cultural History.’ The essays in the book focus broadly on the social and cultural history of the Tamil region during the colonial period, and as the most significant urban center of the region at the time, Madras (now Chennai) features prominently in these essays.
Says the author, “Over the years, this book of essays has won me much love. I’ve often been identified as ‘the coffee chap.’ Such I suppose is the charm of coffee.”
The book release event is on November 1, 6 p.m. onwards at the Tagore Auditorium inside the campus of the TN College of Music, R. A. Puram. The author will be in conversation with V. Sriram, historian of Chennai. The event is organised by Chennai International Centre. It is open to all.
