Generations gather to honor a legendary teacher of P. S. Senior – Padmasri Ma’am – on her retirementt

In a joyful and emotional tribute that bridged three decades of history, the alumni of P. S. Senior Secondary School gathered to bid farewell to their ‘legendary’ accountancy teacher, Padmasri Nirmal Kumar.

The event, held on April 11 at a T Nagar hotel, marked the retirement of a woman who was much more than a
teacher—she was a career-defining mentor to thousands.

Padmasri joined the commerce department of P. S. Senior in 1991. Over her 35-year tenure, she became the school’s ‘cornerstone’, famous for her unique ability to simplify the complex world of balance sheets and ledger entries.

Her true impact lay in her ability to weave life lessons into her curriculum, said alumni. Today, her students occupy high seats as chartered accountants, lawyers, and global industry leaders.

Following her official retirement in March 2026, a dedicated committee of past students
organised this ceremony.

The farewell ceremony was a departure from traditional. It began with a nostalgic batch-wise attendance and a group rendition of the school prayer.

Instead of long-winded speeches, the evening featured an engaging Q & A session. Padmasri shared a message that captured her life’s philosophy: Remember, integrity is your only non-depreciating asset. Protect it fiercely.

The guest list was a testament to her influence, featuring alumni batches from 1993 through to
the latest passouts. Many traveled from across the world and from various parts of India to be present for her final roll call.

Also in attendance were current faculty members of the school’s commerce department and her
family, including her husband, Dr. Nirmal Kumar, himself a prominent academician and HoD
of the commerce department at A.M. Jain College.

The celebration reached its visual peak with a series of group photographs. Posing with
individual batches spanning over 30 years, was Padmasri who stood at the centre of each group.
