Elections 2026: BJP and DMK hold campaign shows on Sunday evening

Sundays are for loud, big election campaigns. And so it was on April 19.

Overnight, BJP party cadres and contractors had bathed the Mada Streets and Sri Kapali Temple zone areas with their party colours; dotted with flags of their allies in the AIADMK-led  NDA.

Hawkers had shut down and the area sanitised.

This was an evening for the Amit Shah show; he stood in a moving jeep and flanked by two candidates, the BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan of BJP contesing in Mylapore and Valarmathi of the AIADMK contesing in Thousand Lights.

R K Mutt Road and the mada veedhis were packed to the sidewalks; every person who walked into that zone was screened.

Amit Shah also visited and prayed at Sri Kapali Temple.

Later in the evening, DMK’s M K Stalin led his convoy down Eldams Road and Alwarpet; alongside him was Dha Velu, the party’s Mylapore candiate and sitting MLA. Scores of DMK cadres joined the convoy even as women, in party colours and holding cutouts of the DMK symbol, the rising sun, greeted the convoiy at the junction.
