Scores of people, from political parties and groups and individuals streamed into the Dr Ambedkar Mani Mantapam in MRC Nagar zone of R A Puram this April 14 to mark his birth anniversary.
The main statue set in the landscaped square in the open was cleaned last evening and the campus decorated and illuminated for this event.
A large posse of police men and women were on duty.
People paid their respects at the statue which was richly decorated with flowers and went around the campus.
The candicates for Mylapore in the Assembly elections due on April 23, like BJP’s Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and DMK’s Dha Velu, also came by and offered garlands to a bust of Ambedkar.
