An evening for Tamil theatre artistes. Awards and recognition. Kodai Nataka Vizha bests.

This was a big evening for the community of theatre groups who stage mid-of-road plays in Tamil and are supported by the sabhas cicruit.

Held at the auditorium of Mylapore Fine Arts Club (MFAC) on June 1 evening. was the awards event  of the Kodai Nataka Vizha ( 35th edition) hosted annually by Kartik Fine Arts sabha in May.

It could have been a nice gala; the artistes were dressed for the occasion.

There were a host of awards. 33 in all, with 15 rolling trophies.

The Dummies  Drama team was present in full strength; cameraman and cheer-leaders. They rooted lustily as one of theirs walked up to receive a trophy /certificate; they won the maximum number of awards that evening.

It was also an evening to recognise two stalwarts of theatre with special awards – P. Muthkumaran and Dummies Drama troupe for their play ‘Thanim-AI’.

Kartik Fine Arts also presented Rs.10,000 and Rs.5,000 to two theatre groups, Koothapiran’s Navabharath Theatres and Three Entertains; they staged multiple shows of their 2025 award-winning plays in the calendar year.

The event ended with a play for the fairly packed hall, all seniors.

Y. Gee Mahendra did a promo for his forthcoming film ‘Charukesi’ and then staged  ‘ Varadu Kutty – Paritchaikku Neramachu 2.
