A large part of the sprawling estate owned by Andhra Mahila Sabha in R. A. Puram has been levelled and the stage is set for the launch of a new hospital.
Hyderabad-based Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Limited (KIMS) has entered into a ‘leave and license’ agreement with Andhra Mahila Sabha to take land on a long-term lease for setting up a super speciality hospital in this plot that lies off Greenways Road and Durgabai Deshmukh Road.
The land parcel measures 1.168 acres, equivalent to 21.19 grounds.
This move marks KIMS’ maiden entry into the Tamil Nadu healthcare market. It plans a 300-bed modern hospital and the investment is to be Rs.300 crores.
Some old blocks of AMS as well as a hotel which shut down over a year ago have been demolished.
AMS sources said that the Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital’s services will continue in the existing blocks. Mother and child care is the focus.
