Residents complain about gravel, sand dumped on streets by contractors. GCC is slack to such plaints

Residents of Mylapore’s Muthu Street zone have raised sokme serious road-safety concerns arising from the dumping of gravel on local streets / roads for nearby construction activities.

At the cross-road junction between Muthu Street and Venkatasamy Street, gravel has been dumped on the road by a contractor for construction premises. ‘Such practices create unnecessary hazards for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, said residents.

They say two-wheelers are particularly vulnerable to skidding while overtaking or negotiating turns. The danger increases during night driving when visibility is reduced.

Residents say that though they have filed civic complaint with GCC online, action appears to be delayed.

Resident Deva V said – when attempting to report the gravel dumped at the cross-road junction between Muthu Street and Venkatasamy Street, I was informed that the cross-road location itself was not available in the Namma Chennai App.

Deav said that he had filed a complaint relating to Muthu Street, but the complaint was closed without the gravel being cleared,

He said gravel is also dumped on Salai Street.
