Independence Day celebrations were held across the Mylapore zone today, August 15. Here are some of them.
At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore Dr Sudha Raja led a choir of children who sang themed songs for the occasion after the national flag was hoisted here. ( photo below)
Students of Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls, Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Senior and Sir Sivaswami Matric took part in a procession from Sundareswarar Street to the school ground in Chitrakulam where a formal flag hoisting ceremony and cultural events were held. ( photo below)
In Mandavelipakkam, residents gathered at Kalyana Nagar Association premises to hoist the national flag and exchange greetings. ( photo below)
Students of St Isabel’sSchool of Nursing in Luz, attired in a variety of costumes of the regions ./ states of India lent colour to their Independence Day event. ( first photo on top of story)
The residents of CIT Colony gathered at the GCC park to commemorate the day. Breakfast was served to all guests.
Residents of R. A. Puram attended an event hosted by the local association called RAPRA. P. Rajagopal, partner, Sangeetha chain of restaurants, was the chief guest and he hoisted the national flag. The attraction of this year’s event was the performance of 12 children who are members of RAPRA Kids Club. ( photo above)
Sevalaya, the NGO, celebrated Independence Day at its Gayathri Memorial Vocational Training Centre, Pattinapakkam.
The residents of Jeevan Bheema Enclave, Mylapore organised a medley of cultural events on August 14 evening and they attended the flag hoisting event the next morning.
Some residents of Pelathope got together to have a snappy I-Day event.
People who frequent the GCC park on Lazarus Church Road and those who reside in this zone held a simple flag hoisting event at the park.
Dignity Foundation’s Nambikkai Nagar Day Care Centre, off the Marina, a centre for seniors celebrated Independence Day with cultural events in which seniors were involved. Local area councillor Amirtha Varshini hoisted the national flag along with a member of the centre and distributed clothes to the seniors ( photo above)
The community in R. K. Nagar zone got together at the local park for a medley of events that followed the national flag hoisting ceremony. Young musicians jammed with children and adults to present a string of songs themed for the occasion. The artworks of children on the day’s theme were displayed in the open.

The Raja Street zone community in Mandaveli focused on children at the day’s event; their members organised a simple quiz and snappy talks to enlighten the kids on India’s prominent freedom fighters. ( photo below)
