Nageswara Rao Park; citizens hold ‘silent meeting’ to draw attention to the ‘sad state’ of park

Members of some city-based civil society groups staged a ‘silent meet’ in the rear zone of Nageswara Rao Park, Luz on August 16, Sunday morning to bring attention to the ‘sad state’ of this popular park and ask the city’s civic body, the GCC to do all it can to restore it.

Some two dozen people from Mylapore area and beyond participated. They carried small placards with slogans that said – Give Back Our Park, Protect Urban Lung Spaces and A Beautiful Park Ripped,

There was an informal exchange of thoughts on the state of the park and on ideas for followup action.

There seems to be some positive reaction from the GCC to criticisms and reactions from small sections of the community to the state of the park where work seems to have come to a standstill some weeks ago and workers and the contractor ‘missing’.

On Monday, August 17, a senior GCC engineer is said to have taken stock of the current state of the park and plans to have an informal meet with concerned citizens and move forward.
