Members of the BEAT Choir and well-wishers gathered on September 6 at Ragasudha Hall, to celebrate the music and career of guru Rajarajeshwari; for the past 40 years she has been teaching choral music. She resides in Mandaveli.
Pralayan S. Chandrasekaran, a prominent theatre director and writer graced the occasion as a special guest – words poured out of him in his effusive praise for Rajarajeshwari’s many contributions to choral music and her skills in composing music.
D. Ramachandran, artistic director of Madras MBS Choir, regaled the audience with warm anecdotes about the guru’s career.
BEAT Choir presented a few compositions of their teacher which covered Carnatic, folk and Western music.
The Madras MBS choir presented two classical numbers of late choir music guru M. B. Srinivasan.
BEAT Choir has performed across Tamilnadu and has also participated in international competitions at Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka winning awards.
Many ‘old’ students of the teacher queued up to shower her with affection and gifts, said Nirmala Hariharan, a BEAT member.
