Work has been going on at a good pace to ‘renovate’ Nageswara Rao Park in Luz, since it began in earnest three weeks ago. But there is still a lot to be done yet.
The rear zone of the park looks far better than it used to be some weeks ago – areas around trees sport grass patches and paths for walking are in place.
But the pathways for walkers, in the north zone are yet to be relaid and the ‘greening’ here will take time.
Three pits, created to sport fancy water bodies, have been filled up with Nageswara Rao Park: work on at good pace earth and flattened.
Large amounts of manure and soil are being poured over dry ground patches to prepare the areas to plant more shrubs.
The metal roof skeleton, originally meant to create a sort of interpretation / activity space is now painted white and paver blocks are being laid over the cemented circular ground space here. But it is not clear what this space is designed to be and what it could be used for.
The raised top of the storm water drain which was built last year, north to south in the east end of the park, to carry rainwater which flooded Luz Avenue zone, remains as it is and is an eye sore. It is this civic work that started the ‘destruction’ of the park.
At that time, civic activists wondered why the existing drain alongside the road could not have been redesigned and reused for the purpose.
