Christians cemeteries prepared for All Souls Day ( Nov.2)

Civic workers have cleared the wild vegetation inside the Chennai Corporation cemetery for Christians located off St. Mary’s Road, Mandaveli.

This is in preparation for All Souls Day on November 2 – observed every year in the Christian calendar as a day to remember the departed.

The work was carried out in co-ordination with a team of Our Lady of Guidance Church in R.A. Puram. Fr. T. Anthony Raj is the parish priest here. The church informally manages this space.

On Nov.2, Christians visit graves of their near and dear ones and pray.

This year there will be a joint service of all Christian denominations on November 2 at 3,30 pm at this cemetery. Priests will go around blessing the graves.
Similar cleaning work is also on at Quibble Island Cemetery. A large stream of people is expected this weekend and on November 2.  This place accommodates the graves of Catholics and Protestants but burials are now limited to families whose members have been buried here and have registered. Graves are also recycled as per civic norms.
