P. S. Kalyani aged 84 passed away on Feb.15. She was born on August 16, 1928 in a village in Tanjore district.
At the age of 10 her family moved to Mylapore. She did her schooling at Sir Lady Siaswami Iyer Girls’ School.
Kalyani did her teachers training and joined Lady Sivaswamy Iyer Girls’ School as a teacher. She retired from the same school at the age of 60 in April 1989.
She had taught at this school for over 40 years and many mothers and daughters in the Mylapore neighbourhood had been her students, said her family member.
She was married to R. Balasubramaniam in 1952. Her husband passed away in 1960. She lost her daughter in 1995 at the age of 40.
