Chennai Corporation starts spreading awareness on RWH through Covid workers

With the city witnessing frequent rains, Chennai Corporation has started spreading awareness on Rain Water Harvesting (RWH).

The civic body is now urging people to maintain/ desilt their RWH systems, so rainwater can be tapped effectively, whenever it rains.

Says a GCC official attached to a local Ward, “As there is regular rainfall since this past week, we have begun spreading awareness on RWH, through Covid workers (who go door to door to check residents for virus symptoms).”

Usually, staff from local Ward perform this work. But, this year, the Corporation chose to spread awareness through Covid workers, “as they have a good rapport with people.”

Now, every day, in addition to checking residents for fever and oxygen saturation, the workers will also distribute pamphlets, that provide information on how one can maintain existing RWH systems.

“Besides the workers will encourage people to follow instructions on pamphlets. They will also ask people to construct new RWH structures if they don’t have them already.”
