Obit: S. P. Mani

S. P. Mani, aged 82 years expired on July 18.

He worked for Hercules Insurance in Calcutta and Chennai and later moved to United India Insurance when the industry was nationalized in 1973.

He retired in 1989 as Assistant General Manager.

During his school and college days, he used to go on long distance runs and played cricket, his family said.

He played the ‘morsing’ instrument for leading artists like K J Yesudas and T V Gopalakrishnan. He travelled all over the world with the contemporary dance troupe of Chandralekha during their performances.

He was the Vice -President of Kartik Fine Arts for many years. He had contributed to various social causes and was part of many organisations.

He was also the Vice President of Burns Association of India, Chennai, Vice President of All India Insurance Pensioners Association (LIC/GIC), Course Director for Astrology at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and a naturopath.

He was conferred the title “Sevamrutha Nada Prakasa” by International Society for LAYA Awareness and the title “Jothida Siva Ratna” by Madras Astrological Research and Studies (MARS).
