Two Mylaporeans. One cause. Free coaching for poor students

For ten years now, two Mylaporeans have been making a difference by providing free maths and science coaching for economically challenged class X students.

Past secretary of Mylapore Club R. Ravi and chartered accountant R. Mugunthan humbly attribute their success to the efforts of their teachers.

“The idea came to us way back in 2007”, says Ravi, “I was playing badminton at Mylapore Club when one day an employee who worked at the court there – Murugananthan, asked me if I could recommend low cost tuition centers. He couldn’t afford private tuitions which cost Rs. 6000 a month. We decided to open a tuition center and help these students. Luckily, we found good teachers who were committed to this cause too”.

And that’s not all. The duo also provide notebooks, pens, geometry boxes and other stationery items
needed for them to study. “In ten years, not a single student has failed their board exams, and these are students who score very low marks and risk being thrown out of school”, adds Ravi.

Their future plans also include free NEET coaching for these students.

Classes are taken six days a week, for an hour in the evening at Akshara Play School at Arisikaran
Street, Mylapore. For more details contact Jayashree. M at 9841047984.
