MLA discusses plan to construct soak pits to tap rain-water on streets, roads

Mylapore’s MLA, R. Nataraj has been discussing how to go about setting up soak pits that can tap floodwaters on neighbourhood streets.

This follows the MLA’s public announcement to allot at least Rs 1 crore from the MLA Development Fund to water harvesting projects.

Nataraj discussed with expert Shekar of the Rain Centre which is based in Mandavelipakkam the pits that are best suited for this project. This civic activist has overseen similar projects in some parts of the city.

The rainwater harvesting soak its have a diameter of 3 feet and cost about Rs.20,000 each to be created on the sides of a street/road.

Mylaporeans have emailed to the MLA areas where rainwater stagnates. This list will help the civic team plan its project. You too can mail the MLA such instances.
