Restricted access to Marina; issue taken to court

The issue of restricted entry to Marina Beach has been taken to court but the judges have asked the petitioner to formally file a case on the issue.

The petitioner cited reports in newspapers on city police barricading the beach, asking bikers to park their vehicles on the pavements and restricting access to the beach. This was being carried out to discourage assembly of protestors on the Cauvery river waters issue.

Access to the beach continues to be highly restricted from the Light House end to further north. Every day, large teams of police men and women take position on the pavement and service road to prevent groups of people from going into the beach.
