Shoppers flood local streets on the eve of Vinayaka Chaturthi

It is the eve of Vinayaka Chaturthi. A little before dusk today evening, vendors at South Mada Street, Mylapore start setting up their wares at every nook and cranny of the street.

Idols of Lord Vinayaka, ranging from the small mud ones to the big painted ones are being stocked up on the sides of the street there.

As the sun sets, people flood the street to do their last minute shopping. Shoppers are seen bargaining with the hawkers there hoping to get a good deal on the idols, small umbrellas, flowers and fruits sold there.

There is also a rush to get thoranams, garlands, mango leaves and other pooja items.

Similar scenes are also seen at Mandaveli market and at Venkatakrishna Road opposite the bus terminus.
