Don Bosco Anbul Illam holds its A-Day in San Thome; works for street children and runaways

Don Bosco Anbu Illam celebrated its 33rd Annual Day on October 13 at St. Bede’s auditorium, San Thome.

Rev. Fr. Don Bosco, Vice Provincial-Salesian Province of Chennai, Uma Maheshwari, DCPO, Fr.Stanley, rector of St.Bede’s Acdamey and Fr.Gregory, rector of Don Bosco, Egmore presided over
the function.

Fr.Francis Bosco (CWC Chairperson, Villupuram), Asha, city-level coordinator, Shelter for Homeless, GCC and Virgil D’ Sami, director of Arunodhaya gave away the prizes for the children.

Over 900 children participated in this event which was coordinated by Fr. Joseph Leo, director of DBAI.

Fr Leo says Don Bosco Anbu Illam is a child rights organization and works for street children and slum based children and has done so for 33 years. It reaches over 30 areas in Chennai to rescue children who need care and protection. Anbu Illam also works in 12 coastal slum communities for education, environment and health.

Says Fr Leo, “We have street contact personnel to rescue runaway children found on the Marina Beach and in the backyard of St. Bede’s School. We  also run evening study centres to prevent drop outs in the schools.”
