Lok Sabha elections / South Chennai: Intense demands from all parties for its candidates

There is intense competition for a ticket to contest in the south Chennai Lok Sabha constituency, a prestigious ones for many years now.

We learn that the AIADMK is keen to contest here and that sitting MP, Dr J. Jayavardhan has applied again. However, the AIADMK’s ally, BJP is also bidding to get the ticket for this seat. Names of D. Raja are being spoken about.

The BJP’s La Ganesan contested independently and by BJP calculations, the appreciable number of votes he received is far higher than the banks of pro-BJP voters in this area and they expect the vote share to rise and that the addition of the AIADMK vote will get the candidate past the line.

The DMK is keen to choose its candidate to contest here. The name of poet-writer-speaker Thamiazhachi Thangapandian is aiming to get the nod from the DMK.

Congress, its ally is also said to be keen to have this seat for itself in the alliance.

Clearly, some intense bargaining is on in the days ahead.
