Panguni fest: Punnai maram vahanam makes the rounds of mada streets

On Monday night, it was the turn of the punnai maram, vengai maram and karpakavriksham vahanams to make rounds of the mada streets as part of the ongoing panguni festival at Sri Kapali Temple.

There is an interesting story that is told about the punnai maram. It is said that goddess Parvati is cursed by lord Shiva and is born as a peacock on earth. She worships her lord under a punnai tree at Mylapore.

Tomorrow it will be the turn of the Surya vattam vahanam in the morning and Chandra vattam, killi and Anna vahanams in the evening to do the rounds.
