Panguni fest: officers discuss arrangements but not on virus issue and large crowds

Preparations are on for the annual Panguni festival of Sri Kapali Temple but there is no word yet on how the huge crowds that will attend the ther, arubathimoovar and thirukalyanam rituals and events will be dealt with in the time of the corona virus.

On Saturday the temple’s executive officer Kaveri and Mylapore zone DCP headed a meeting of officers of all state agencies who have a role to play in this festival which rolls from next weekend. All the key security, religious and social issues were discussed but not on the virus issue.

It is learnt that HR&CE minister was told about the virus issue when he was at the temple on Thursday at the launch of electric golf carts for ferrying devotees on the mada streets – donated by Sundaram Finance.

Temple officers say they will have to await orders from the state government.
