Garbage generation comes down in the neighbourhood

Following the lockdown, the garbage generated in the neighbourhood has come down.

Says Vinodkumar, a RamKy supervisor, who manages garbage collection in ward 173 of Chennai Corporation, “Garbage collected in Mylapore has come down by approximately 25 %. This is because all commercial establishments, restaurants and hostels have shut. Hence, the waste generated from these places is almost nil.”

Door to door collection, he says is not happening at some places as people have locked their houses and gone to their native places.

“In addition, the garbage generated from the residential areas has also come down considerably, ” he says.
