Thaligai restaurant introduces sweets, podis to boost business

Thaligai restaurant on Luz Church Road has introduced a range of sweets and podis to boost business during the lockdown.

The new sweets in its menu include mango paal halwa, and jackfruit paal halwa.

Says Nalina Kannan, the owner of the restaurant, “The mango paal halwa is made of fresh mango pulp and paal khova. We also have other traditional snacks like paal khova, thiratu pal, kai murukku, thattai among others.”

The restaurant has also introduced a new line of podis. It includes sambhar podi, paruppu podi, dosa/idli podis, all made using traditional recipes, Nalina says.

One can also buy ma vadu, narthangai, and lemon pickles from this restaurant now.

In addition, as the owner has chosen not to open dining, she has rearranged the dining hall to display the snacks and podis, on wooden shelves.  “This way customers can walk around to pick their favourite items and get them billed at the billing counter.”

100 grams of mango paal halwa is priced at Rs.105. Snacks are available for door delivery via Dunzo, and Swiggy. The restaurant is also open for takeaways. At 60, Luz Church Rd, Opposite Nageshwara Rao Park. Ph: 9791272888.
