MLA hands over compensation by Slum Board to families of two men who died while cleaning drain

Mylapore MLA R. Nataraj handed over cheques to the value of Rs.10 lakh each for the families of the two men in Srinivasapuram who lost their lives while trying to clean a blocked sewage drain some days ago.

The compensation was arranged by the TN Slum Clearance Board and Board officials were present at a meet held inside this colony off Pattinapakkam this noon.

Says Ramalingam, Assistant Executive Engineer, TNSCB, who is in charge of this area, “We gave the compensation as per the instruction of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.”

The two men are said to have been hired by a local resident and both got asphyxiated.

There are many, old tenements built by the Slum Board at the far end of this colony which also has lots of illegal tenements and encroachments.
