Staff at this women’s salon have been working very hard to increase the confidence of the customers

It has not been easy for K. Mahalakshmi, the owner of Maha Elegance and Styling Salon for Women at Venkatesa Agraharam Road, Mylapore. When she had to close down due to the lockdown, they did have losses. But now she says business is picking up and shows a positive trend.

Mahalakshmi says, “Initially people were a little apprehensive about dropping in but once they realized that we were taking the necessary precautions, they are a little more confident now. We have now regained about 40% of our regular business”.

The team had to work very hard however to gain the confidence of the customers. The entire salon was refurbished to make more space for customers. Expired products, many of which hadn’t been used at all due to the lockdown, were thrown out and new and improved hair and face products were acquired.

Whenever a customer walked in they would be given a hygiene kit in addition to gloves, plastic shields, caps and shoe covers. These sealed hygiene kits would be opened in front of the customers. The staff would sterilize the equipment frequently and ensure the premises was always clean. They also made sure that appointments were staggered to ensure social distancing.

The efforts paid off, says Mahalakshmi. As the word spread, more customers started dropping in. She is hopeful that her business will get back to normal very soon.
