Cinthia Jude had a special Sunday. Though she and her family are Christians who live in a colony in R. A. Puram, they stepped out of their doorstep in the evening and lit up earthen lamps, in the middle of a small kolam and a line of words in Thamizh created from the kolam maavu.
Cinthia who teaches history at a prominent city women’s college says that Sunday was also the first Sunday of Advent – Advent is the season in the Church calendar that leads up to the celebration of Christmas.
So she and her family decided to combine Advent and Karthigai Deepam in a symbolic way.
“The Church encourages Indianisation in our religious services and I decided to celebrate it with lit lamps,” said Cinthia who attends the Our Lady of Guidance Church on Lazarus Church Road.
