Reopening schools; feedback indicates that most do not want classes now

A few schools in the Mylapore zone were the venues for students and parents to present their views on the issue of re-opening of schools. The meet-ups took place on Monday, Nov.9.

Mylapore Times visited three schools -Rani Meyyammai Schools for Girls in R A Puram, P. S. Higher Secondary School in Mylapore and Lady Sivaswamy Girls School, Mylapore.

A rough assumption on the feedback that was provided at all three campuses indicated that some 70% of people do not want schools to be re opened now. Some say that special classes must be held for students in Std.10 and Std.12 because they will be sitting for the Board exams in a few months.

The meet-ups were well organised, in accordance with the pandemic time regulations. Printed forms to enter people’s views were distributed. These forms will reach the state for it to take a call soon.

At all three centres, the attendance was average, with parents taking time off to be at this meet-up though one saw mostly women at the meets at all three schools.

At some places students, some in school uniform also attended the meet and shared their views.
