Chennai Corporation has started on Sunday, providing food free to the poor and unemployed across the city.
This scheme was also rolled out in some pockets of Mylapore zone.
The scheme has been initiated by the state’s chief minister.
The intention is to provide food – breakfast, lunch and dinner – over a week, to the poor and unemployed who have been badly affected by the fallout of the Corona virus pandemic situation, and more recently by the cyclonic weather.
At Salaiyar Street, we noticed local AIADMK party cadres helping civic staff in handing over lunch to all those who stood in the queue out in the open.
Similar services were made available in some other pockets of Mylapore area.
