More people commute via workmen special trains now

Staff attached to Thirumayilai MRTS railway station say that more people are commuting via the ‘workmen’ special trains now.

Workmen special trains started plying at this station, in October, after Southern Railways began running them to help essential service staff.

Says a staff at the ticket counter of Thirumayilai station, “Earlier, only 40 essential service staff (bank employees, state and central government staff) were using these trains.”

“But now, as we have also allowed women passengers to travel in these trains, over 50 are commuting via the trains.”

In a recent announcement, Southern Railways has allowed all women passengers to travel via these trains without time restrictions. So a number of women are also using the train now.

Details regarding train timings are pasted at the booking office here. The station follows essential precautions to prevent virus spread.
