Adanjan Street turns colourful on Pongal morning

If you want to get a feel of the celebratory mood and colour of Pongal in the Mylapore zone then you must walk into one of the inner streets of the old part of this neighbourhood.

This morning, at daybreak we visited the narrow Adanjan Street where today, bikes and scooters fight for parking space and yet allow others to navigate themselves across this pathway.

The houses are choc-a-bloc and yet on this festival day, women and families came out to decorate the spaces outside their doorways with colourful kolams that took the rangoli avatar. Sugarcanes, peacocks, pongal-filled pots and flowers were the dominant themes from one end of the street to the other.

Yes, the bikes had been moved to one side so that the creative hands could have a free and easy access to the designs.
