Vaccination for teens: GCC to focus now on govt. and state-run schools. Jabs to be given in campus.

Vaccination for teens will get going at the Mylapore zone level only on Tuesday or Wednesday. But this will focus on government schools for now.

The city’s civic body has advised its medical teams at zonal level to focus now only on government and GCC managed school’s senior students.

The jabs will be given to students by GCC healthcare teams in the campus.  School heads have been asked to prime and brief parents of their wards and the students before the jab-giving teams are called in, said a senior GCC officer who handles vaccination in the Teynampet zone under which Mylapore falls.

Those who do not want the jab can opt out.

GCC has granted a week’s time for this focussed campaign for now.

Students in the 15 – 18 years age group cannot walk into GCC health centres and get the jab on their own. Nor are private hospitals advised to make this offer.

The campaign is now worked out for school-wise vaccination.

Only ‘non-school-going’ teens can get the jab now at health centres, showing a valid ID card.
