Panguni festival: hawkers-free streets for main processions around temple

Over two or three days, the hawkers around Sri Kapali Temple vacate their prized spaces to ensure the processions of the temple’s Panguni festival go on smoothly.

Almost all of them vacated their spaces, especially the vegetable hawkers at the east end of South Mada Street.

They did this on the eve of the chariot’s procession and will keep off till the arubathumoovar processions of the saints gets over on Wednesday night.

Local civic body officials employed JCBs and men to clear empty boxes and assorted stuff left behind by some hawkers on the South Mada Street end and also on Ponnambala Vadyar Street and elsewhere.
