Dance festival opens at Sri Kapali Temple. Recitals every evening, till May 10

The annual Vasant Utsav Dance Festival got off to a start on Sunday evening ( May 1) at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore; this festival has been held for last 18 years but had to take a break the past two years due to the pandemic. Saraswathy Educational Cultural and  Charitable  Trust set up by Indira Garyali conducts this Utsav.

The Utsav will be inaugurated by the chairman of Kalakshetra, S. Ramadorai. Retired IAS officer C K Gariyali, who heads the Trust, the host was also present.

Senior dancers  and teachers Nartaki Natraj, Anita Ratnam and Jigyasa Giri were honoured, as were Vedic
scholars Ganesh and Venkataramanan Sharma and Shaivite scholar Ooran Adigalar. ( photo below)

Then, followed a Bharatanatyam dance recital by Binesh Mahadevan and his students ( photo No.1).

The festival features performances by Kuchipudi Art Academy, Devaniya School of Kathak, Konark Academy
of Odissi besides Bharatnatyam by Nartaki Natraj and by students of Sasirekha Rammohan and others.

Open to all. Two recitals every evening, 6 p.m. onwards on most days. On till May 10.
