Following plans by the state to increase the zones of Chennai Corporation, Mylapore will be created as one civic zone.
There are 15 zones now and these will increase to 22 zones, with plans to create them in such a manner that they fall within a specific Assembly constituency, which the state says will make managing them easier.
Currently, the larger part of Mylapore and areas around fall under mainly the Teynampet GCC zone besides three other zones.
Mylapore MLA Dha Velu says that the new zones will be formally launched in 3 months.
He says that the GCC has zeroed in on locating the zone office at its property near Valluvar statue MTC bus stop, where a AIDS centre used to function and later, this became a Covid testing centre, on R. H. Road.
