Madhava Perumal Temple: rainy start to the ten-day Aadi Pooram utsavam

Devotees started strolling in by 5.30pm on Saturday (July 23) evening for the first day celebrations of the Aadi Pooram Utsavam at the Madhava Perumal Temple in Thyagarajapuram.

The young Ashwin Bhattar had decorated Andal Nachiyar in a beautiful alankaram and she was decked in a colourful garland. By the time the Prabhandham members had recited the first canto of Namazhwar’s Tiruvoimozhi verses, rain was in the air and it fell and the procession of Andal was delayed.

Around 7pm, the rain finally relented and much to the delight of a sizeable devotee crowd that had gathered by then at the temple, Andal went around the wet prakara inside the temple complex thrice listening to the sacred verses presented by the Prabhandham members.

The devotees were then presented with the sacred puliyodharai at the end of the procession.

The utsavam will be on till August 1 with the highlight being a special sayana kolam (sleeping posture) alankaram next Sunday (July 31).
